Pokken Tournament Review

Pokken TournamentPokkén Tournament is a fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game combines gameplay elements from Bandai Namco's Tekken series with characters from Nintendo's Pokémon franchise.

Unlike previous Pokemon video games, the fight in Pokken Tornament,  is not slow. The version of the game lets trainers ‘synergise’ with their Pokemon. You will be able to freeze the Garchomp with Suicine’s Ice Beam or cut a Pikachu to ribbons using Weavile’ claws.

The fights can switch back and forth between two phases which constantly keeps you on your toes;

Field Mode allows you to run around the full arena as a 3D space while the Dual Phase, sees you square up against your opponent in a side-on, 2.5D view.  One this which annoying when arena changing just before you start attack is the fact that a button combo in one phase will do something complete different in the other as well as some moves only works in certain phases. This can make a fight a bit messy and what you learn from the other fight won’t help you in a new fight.  At play there is also rock/paper/scissors element. Grabs break through blocks, blocks cancel normal attacks, and normal override grabs.

Note that Pokken Tournament is compatible with all Amiibo product, even the Animal Crossing Amiibo cards. You will be able to tap any collection of Amiibo up to five times a day to unlock a random customisation options like a new title, funds for your wallet (but the funds can be used on the outfits and hair dyes for your trainers).

Weight differences does not matter here as small Pokemon is able to pick up and throw the giant Pokemon by using electricity as an extension of itself or psychic energy depending on the character.

Single player is not as complicated as Multiplayer mode as the fight can get really tough against a real person.

Single player Pokemon play time is up to 10 hours, and if you want more you can play against your fellow trainers.
